What to expect from fittings, a message from the seamstress
Hi! Sara’s speaking here (my first blog!) I’m a seamstress at Huw Rees Brides, which means that I’m responsible for alterations to your dresses so you’ll look exquisite on your big day. I graduated in Fashion Design in 2017 and been trained here by Huw, Nia and Marie so you’re in safe hands when it comes to fittings.
When your dress comes in you’ll often hear us talking about fittings in your appointment to try on the dress, you’ll have a lot of questions about what to expect from fittings prior to your wedding, so I’ll talk you through it.
How many fittings will I need?
It will depend on how the dress fits on your first appointment. It takes an average of between 2-3 fittings to get your dress to fit perfectly, but it can take more than that.
My dress has arrived, when should I book my first appointment?
We do recommend that you book your first fitting 4 months minimum prior to your wedding. When your dress arrives here, our team will ring you up ASAP to let you know. That way it is easier for you to arrange an appointment
What happens during the fittings?
At the first fitting we will look at how the dress fits you on the top. We also start to pin up the underlayer hem to the right length. The outer hem is taken up the last minute when everything on the dress is spot on (especially the lace hem, which Marie is a master at).
What would I need to bring with me to the appointment?
We do recommend you to bring undergarments you would wear with the dress on the big day because bras and slips can change the fit of the dress. Also it is recommended that you bring your wedding shoes to the appointment so the hems of your dress will be perfect length. If you can’t get hold of these items, don’t worry because our team are brilliant at giving you advice on this.
