Wedding Dress Inspiration- Iman

Somali born Iman Abdulmajid is a model and humanitarian that worked with designers including Thierry Mugler, Azzedine Alaïa, and Versace. The supermodel also launched her own eponymous makeup range specially created for black people.

Iman married musician David Bowie in a private ceremony in Lausanne, Switzerland in 1992. The pair held a public celebration later in Florence, Italy. The couple have been married for over 23 years before Bowie’s passing in 2016.

Iman wore a fitted halterneck dress with a streamlined floor-length skirt and a detachable train. The bridal gown was designed by Hervé Léger who specialised in no-frills, figure-hugging garments. The wedding look was completed with long sleeves and statement earrings.

When choosing her wedding gown, Iman was looking for a minimal, elegant number that was going to stand the test of time. It has been 28 years and the bridal number is still as fresh. The V neck and halterneck straps gives an illusion of a lean figure, especially on a plain, body skimming gown. Plus, halterneck straps could easily be added to a strapless dress, which is a gorgeous alternative if you want straps but also want to show your back.
